CHREC Year-End Workshop

 The NSF CHREC Year-End meeting was held at the George Washington University Virginia Campus on December 5-6 2007. Over 90 attendees from Academia, Government, and Industry made this one of the largest CHREC gathering since its inception. [Photos

 
PGAS @ SC07

 The PGAS activities at SC07 this year included the annual research exhibit, birds of feather, and tutorial. Participation this year grew to include new languages such  X10 and Chapel, in addition to the current members UPC, Titanium, and Co-Array Fortran.  The CHREC center setup its first SC booth at SC07, Reno. The booth along with other CHREC activities were held at SC07 including participation at HPRCTA workshop and Exotic Architectures Panel. [Photos

 
CHREC Mid-Year Workshop

 The CHREC center mid-year workshop was held at the University of Florida on June 5 and 6, 2007. Attendees included NSF, over 21 industrial and governmental institutions, and CHREC members from GWU, UF, Virginia Tech and BYU. [Photos]

 
HLL Study wins Synplicity Award at SPL 2007
Synplicity "Comparative Analysis of High Level Programming for Reconfigurable Computers: Methodology and Empirical Study", a study conducted last summer at ARSC has won "Synplicity Best Paper Awards" at SPL2007 held on February 26-28, 2007 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. [Link]

GWU Announces Center of Excellence in HPC
GWU"...Two new GW centers will emerge from the winning proposals:[.....] The Institute for Massively Parallel Applications and Computing Technology (IMPACT), an interdisciplinary faculty team spanning the School of Engineering and Applied Science and Columbian College that will conduct research, educational, and outreach programs in high- performance computing, known as supercomputers..." HPC Academic Excellence Initiative
GWU"...The George Washington University's Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald R. Lehman announced today the selection of eight new signature academic programs and five strategic initiatives that will receive nearly $2.4 million as part of the University's Strategic Plan for Academic Excellence. The funding comes from a nearly $4.5 million special endowment payout approved by GW's Board of Trustees..." [Link]

GWU"...CHREC researchers will investigate new efficient architectures and tools for high-performance reconfigurable computers.  These are supercomputers that, in addition to having conventional microprocessors, have reconfigurable hardware processors that can change its hardware to fit the problems they are trying to solve.
